Once a upon a time the LTA instigated a winter tennis competition based upon local leagues with the winners going through to regional and then national finals, and this was sponsored.  The LTA then stopped supporting it. 

As a local set-up therefore already existed, it was continued as an independent non-profit making league, and is now named as above.  We are supported by club subscriptions, with any surplus after expenses going to charity.  

The Winter League is very closely linked to the local summer league Slazenger North East Cheshire Lawn Tennis League.

The Winter League is based upon and open to clubs who play in the Slazenger North East Cheshire Lawn Tennis League.  This covers East Cheshire and South Manchester.  Other clubs can apply to join, but factors that would be taken into account would include location and facilities.
